Vibration platform: new media myth

Edited by Francesca Fanolla

Until a few years ago the mass media bombarded us with commercials about the miraculous electrostimulators that for a long time and for many became a fundamental tool of daily life, a little like the old ramshackle exercise bike in the 80s or the last miraculous one ( but alas, in 70% of the cases useless!) tool for the abdominals.

In time fashions explode, they all involve like a hurricane and then ... they pass and end up in oblivion (or in the closet!), Giving way to the latest "media" fitness, as I usually call it. the Vibrating Platform scene, much praised in the advertising breaks between the various telenovelas, in the fitness magazines - and not only - and proposed in the various subscription packages in the Sport Centers.

Unfortunately, innovations and equipment such as the aforementioned electrostimulator and the vibrating platform do indeed have their effective efficacy, being however the result of specific scientific studies, but always and in any case if used in the right way, with suitable criteria and under the control of specialists in the sector sports doctor.

Unfortunately, however, as happens today, such aids immediately end up in the media circuit that exploits them as a source of income, proposing them to the public as "miraculous" objects. And so we find ourselves faced with illusory phrases like: "you're tired of going to the gym ? Why sweat and get tired? 10 minutes per day of Vibrating Plate are SUFFICIENT to have a perfect body! '.

Certainly, those of sports and fitness who understand a little can do nothing but smile before such sentences, but those who actually have never practiced physical activity, those who have never attended a gym, want to laziness, want for lack of time, drink it all.

And so, in every house there is space for this platform with miraculous vibrations and almost becomes a cult object, chatted with great pride by the deluded housewives to be able to face the costume test by simply watching TV and setting a 10min program on the Platform .

How sad ...

But do these vibrating platforms really work? And above all BASTANO DA SOLE to achieve certain goals of well-being and physical fitness? Let's see what the benefits are and to what extent.

DRAINING EFFECT:

"Even the most stubborn cellulite will vanish with the vibrating platform!" this is what the commercials promise us. As we know, cellulite is a skin imperfection deriving from dysfunctions of the peripheral lymphatic system which, from scientific studies, proves to be stimulated exclusively with physical exercise. The lymphatic vessels around the muscles contract only voluntarily, being strictly connected both to the arteriolar pulsation and to the muscular contraction, that is with voluntary contraction-decontrol movements of the muscles. The interstitial fluids enter the open vessels during muscular stretching, while during muscle contraction they are pushed out. speaking, there are no studies attesting to the draining effect on vibrations, especially when they occur in a static position (as on vibrating platforms).

OSTEOPOROSIS TREATMENT AND PREVENTION :

this bone disease is manifested due to a structural bone deterioration with consequent reduction of bone density, although with differences between the various osteo-articular districts. Studies and scientific literature give positive judgments on the effectiveness of vibrating platforms in the treatment of osteoporosis, as they would stimulate the bones in an anabolic way by slowing down bone demineralization.

However, the limiting factor lies in the fact that not everyone can use the beneficial effects of vibrations, such as those suffering from pathologies affecting the osteo-articular system such as disc hernias, spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis.
