Symptoms Pyelonephritis

Related articles: Pyelonephritis

Definition

Inflammation of the pelvis or renal pelvis, where the end product of the filtration flows, which is then conveyed into the ureters. The inflammatory process is generally caused by an ascending urinary infection (urethritis, cystitis, prostatitis) that is not adequately treated. There are some conditions that predispose to the onset of pyelonephritis: stagnation of urine, the presence of stones, pregnancy (since the pregnant uterus can compress the excretory tracts), diabetes, debilitating diseases.

Further indications

In acute forms, polynefrite is often associated with fever and chills; the pain, of a gravitational type, affects the loins (low back). Other characteristic symptoms are those in the elimination of urine (see above). In chronic pyelonephritis the symptoms are less evident, with possible periods of relative well-being interrupted by periods of exacerbation; however, serious complications with structural alterations and loss of renal function are possible.
