Amblyopia: what is direct occlusion?

Direct occlusion (or bandaging) is the most effective treatment for amblyopia, especially if adopted before the patient reaches 7-8 years of age.

It is implemented by applying, on the eye with better functionality (called dominant), an adhesive bandage or a covering plaster, in order to oblige the vision with the "lazy" eye.

The treatment can take a long time, during which the constancy and the correct implementation of the eye doctor's instructions (eg for how many hours and on which days to blindfold the eye) are fundamental to recover the correct visual acuity and avoid permanent damage.
