Diosmin

What is Diosmina?

Diosmin is a flavonoid, a natural substance with ubiquitous distribution in the plant world.

They contain significant concentrations of diosmin the fruits of the genus Citrus (lemons, oranges, grapefruits, etc.), the leaves of Bucco ( Barosma betulina ) and the flowering tops of Ruta ( Ruta graveolens ).

Properties and Uses

Diosmin also has anti-edematous, anti-inflammatory and anti-varicose activity, which makes it useful in the presence of hemorrhoids, cellulite, varicose veins, capillary fragility and related manifestations (ecchymoses, hematomas, purpura).

For external use

The preparations based on diosmin can be intended for topical use, therefore to be applied - in the form of creams or gels - directly on the affected area, through a massage carried out from the bottom upwards until complete absorption of the drug.

For internal use

Diosmin is also found in supplements for os intended to improve the trophism of the microcirculation; the diosmin - hesperidin combination is widely used, given that the latter substance shares the same origins and vasopotectic properties. To enhance the effects of hesperidin and diosmin, these substances can be accompanied by escin and extracts of horse chestnut, red vine, sweet clover and blueberries.

Diosmin is included in numerous medicinal specialties (Venosmine ®, Doven ®, Alven ®, Diosven ®), aimed at treating the typical manifestations of venous insufficiency (nocturnal cramps, pain, heaviness and swelling of the legs).
