Definition

Orchite is the term used to indicate the inflammation of one or both testicles, generally due to viruses (mumps) or bacteria (urinary infections and sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea). In particular, the orchitis often occurs as a complication of mumps, better known as mumps. It is estimated that about one in three males suffering from this disease after puberty develop an acute orchitis, which in only a small percentage of cases causes sterility (more likely when both testicles are affected).

Further indications

Symptoms of orchitis include pain, visible swelling of the testicle, edema and redness of the scrotum. The painful symptoms can be quite intense and accompanied by hematuria, ejaculation of blood and enlargement of the inguinal lymph nodes. In the presence of testicular pain, it is important to contact your doctor promptly, as orchitis and other accompanying disorders (such as testicular torsion) can cause irreversible damage to the testicle with inevitable surgical removal.
