Cardiovascular diseases and exercise: how to encourage movement

Cardiovascular diseases, or diseases that target the heart and blood vessels, are the leading cause of death in the world's most industrialized countries .

One of their main modifiable risk factors is a sedentary lifestyle due to the lack of stimuli. In fact, according to a US survey, performed by www.heart.org, 14% of users would not practice any physical activity because they do not want to or do not find the exercise to be fun / stimulating.

Today, this attitude has even more serious repercussions than in the past, as the current possibilities of travel and the new technologies available increasingly limit individual movements and efforts made over the course of a day.

To overcome these problems and encourage exercise, experts advise combining business with pleasure, in other words, performing physical activities that are fun, relaxing and that allow you to make new acquaintances.

For example, it may be useful:

  • Identify a simple and affordable sporting activity, in which friends, partners and / or work colleagues can also participate. The sport practiced can go from pre-or post-work jumps, to 5-a-side football matches or tennis, to Nordic walking etc.
  • During the holidays, engage in physical activities that can involve the whole family and, at the same time, allow you to appreciate the surrounding environment.
  • Visit, periodically and on foot or by bicycle, cities of art or cultural sites . It is an ideal activity to practice on weekends, perhaps in the company of other friends or relatives.
  • Practice with the partner and / or friends a leisure activity such as dancing, maybe enrolling in courses for beginners.
  • When you are alone in physical activity, listen to the music you like best. It is an effective pastime, which makes it less burdensome to be alone.
