Sore Legs - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

Leg pain is a symptom that can be diffuse or localized, constant or intermittent, and perceived as dull, intense, burning or cramped.

The causes can be different, but in most cases the aching legs result from excessive physical effort.

Compression of the nerve roots at the lumbar level can cause pain in one leg (discopathy) or both (vertebral stenosis), with difficulty walking. Also peripheral arteriopathy is manifested by intermittent claudication, characterized by painful cramps that appear on the way, even after a short distance, and resolve with rest.

Leg pain can also be caused by trauma, such as bruises, sprains, bruises, fractures and dislocations.

Another cause is restless legs syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by a very annoying lower limb restlessness, triggered by nocturnal immobility.

If this manifestation is constant it could depend on a problem of blood circulation, as in the case of phlebitis and deep vein thrombosis. In these cases, intense spontaneous pain is often associated with movement, swelling, heat and congestion of the superficial veins. The legs can be swollen and painful even in the presence of varicose veins.

In some cases, this symptom is associated with dehydration and medication, such as diuretics.
