Indications COMBANTRIN ® Pirantel Pamoato

COMBANTRIN ® is indicated for the treatment of parasitic diseases sustained by pinworms, roundworms and hookworms.

COMBANTRIN ® Pirantel Pamoate action mechanism

COMBANTRIN ® is an antiparasitic drug based on Pirantel Pamoate, salt of pamoic acid, which allows a rapid action at the intestinal level following oral intake, reducing its absorption and potential systemic effects to a minimum.

Its therapeutic activity, particularly effective against intestinal parasites, is realized through the inhibitory action against the nicotinic receptor of the neuromuscular plaque of the parasite, with consequent paralysis.

In this way the parasite loses its invasive abilities towards the gastro-enteric mucosa, thus being eliminated directly through the faeces.

The small amount of drug absorbed is eliminated mainly through the urine, partly unchanged and partly in the form of inactive metabolites.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

EFFECTIVENESS OF METRONIDAZOL-PIRANTEL IN THE TREATMENT OF THE GARDEN

Parasitol Int. 2011 Jan; 60 (1): 54-8.

Study evaluating the efficacy and safety of the Metronidazole - Pirantel Pamoate therapeutic combination in the treatment of Giardia Lamblia, demonstrating an excellent cytotoxic activity enhanced by the synergistic action.

THE PIRANTEL IN THE CONTROL OF THE DIFFUSION OF PARASITOSIS FROM NEMATODI

Trans R Soc Trop Med Hyg. 2002 Nov-Dec; 96 (6): 685-90.

Clinical trial demonstrating the effectiveness of Pirantel in controlling the spread of intestinal nematodes in young patients living in the Sub-Saharan region where the presence of such parasites is endemic and particularly widespread.

MOLECULAR MECHANISM OF THE PIRANTEL

Neuropharmacology. 2001 Aug; 41 (2): 238-45.

Interesting cellular study that seeks to characterize the molecular activity of Pirantel, demonstrating how this is particularly effective against nicotinic nematode receptors, while it has modest biological activity against nicotinic receptors of human muscle cells, thus limiting the potential side effects .
