The catecu was indicated in the therapy of inflammatory states of the upper air and digestive tract due to its astringent activity: this effect is, however, devoid of scientific evidence.

- reduction of the absorption of various drugs in relation to the presence of tannins.
Note
Do not confuse it with the white Catecu, or Gambir, ( Uncaria gambier, family Rubiaceae), a plant from Malaysia rich in catechins.
