Natural remedies for oily hair

Premise

A very ancient and undisputed means of seduction, healthy, shiny and strong hair have always been the universal symbol of beauty and sensuality; but if the hair is fat, fragile, thin and dull, the hope of having perfect and seductive hair appears increasingly distant and unattainable.

In this article we will address some of the natural remedies to solve the problem defined, technically, fatty seborrhea .

Fat hair

This embarrassing and very common disorder takes the form of what we usually call " greasy hair ": the excessive production of sebum by the sebaceous glands, in fact, forms a sticky and glossy patina in the hair, which makes the hair dirty to the eye, opaque and often associated with an unpleasant smell.

The sebaceous glands, under normal conditions, produce the right amount of sebum, which is used to nourish and protect the hair: however, when particular conditions occur, such as stress, incorrect nutrition and too frequent washing, these glands respond with hyper production sebaceous which, in the hair, looks like a real oil. Also problems related to the digestive system, hormonal imbalances, malfunctioning of the liver and menstrual cycle affect sebum production.

Wash the hair

A mistake made by many people subject to the problem of oily hair is represented by the mania of washing hair often: most detergents are formulated with very aggressive ingredients, which eliminate all the fat of the scalp forcing the sebaceous glands to enhance the production of sebum, thus worsening the situation. It should be pointed out, however, that it is not the washing itself that creates this abnormal sebum production, but the quality of the wash: the use of delicate shampoos, for example, does not seem to completely eradicate the normal fat of the scalp, keeping the sebaceous production constant by the glands.

To find the most suitable shampoo for a skin that has problems with oily seborrhea, it is advisable to consult a specialist.

Correct feeding

The first remedy that must be considered is the correction of the diet: the diet, in fact, greatly affects the health of the hair. It is always a good idea to consume fresh foods, seasonal fruits and vegetables, sources of vitamins and minerals that are very important for hair beauty and health. It should be remembered, however, that with the correction of the diet alone it is not possible to completely solve the problem of oily hair.

Herbal remedies

A shampoo based on birch, juniper and ivy can be a good natural remedy against greasy hair:

Birch ( Betula Alba ) has disinfectant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Juniper ( Juniperus communis ) appears to affect the sebaceous glands in sebum production. It also has antiseptic properties (disinfectants): sometimes, but not always, fatty hair is also caused by poor hygiene, so excess fat accumulates on the scalp. Therefore, the use of disinfectants helps to purify the affected area.

Ivy ( Hedera Helix ) is widely used in cosmetics in the treatment of oily hair: its vasoconstrictive and astringent properties are in fact very interesting in alleviating fat seborrhea.

Another natural remedy is tea ( Camelia sinensis ), which thanks to its astringent properties acts as a sebum-regulating agent.

Sea water also appears to be a valid natural remedy to alleviate the problem of oily hair: the salt present in the water acts by regulating the production of sebum, which should return to normal. However, sea water has the disadvantage of drying the hair too much and creating the typical "straw effect".

Still, mint ( Mentha x piperita ) is a plant widely used in cosmetics, because it regulates the production of sebum, thanks to its balsamic and disinfectant properties.

Ancient remedies

In ancient times, as a natural remedy for oily hair, lemon and vinegar were used: in fact, to keep the hair shiny and to remove excess sebum from greasy hair, the lemon-vinegar combination performs a positive action.

The mythology tells that even the ancient gods paid great attention to their hair: it is said that Arianna's very long hair helped to ignite the passion of the god Dionysus, who immediately fell into the arms of the beautiful Arianna.
