Anxious syndrome

Definition

It seems almost impossible but, in fact, the anxious syndrome begins above all in the young adult, around the age of 20: we are talking about a state of mind characterized by a mixture of fears and tensions - generally irrational - not related to any precise and concrete external stimulus.

Symptoms

The anxiety syndrome often degenerates into palpitations, tachycardia, tremors, nausea, peripheral vasoconstriction, hyperhidrosis and respiratory fatigue, above all (but not only) due to the increase in plasma levels of corticosteroids and adrenaline.

Anxious syndrome is a psychological disease that results in truly appreciable effects, leading to a series of negative consequences on the victim's mood: it is a painful feeling of imminent danger and fear.

Classification of anxieties

In general, the anxiety syndrome is classified into two large groups:

  1. The first group is characterized by anxieties in their own right, such as panic attacks, phobias (eg arachnophobia), obsessive-compulsive disorders (tensions and obsessions perceived as inappropriate and intrusive, which beset thoughts, becoming unbearable), stress anxiety;
  2. The second group includes various generalized types of anxiety syndrome, such as situational anxieties, performance anxieties, separation anxieties etc.

Causes

At the present time, in order to cope with the many daily commitments and obligations - work / school and sentimental - the man lives constantly in a frantic way: it is therefore clear that the human being is continually accompanied by stress and tensions which - when they degenerate and overwhelm him excessively - they result in an anxious syndrome in all respects.

The "current" anxiety is nothing but the reflection of a deep crisis typical of today's civilization: a sort of law of survival, in which only the strongest manage to stay afloat, and the others, weaker and more fragile, they fall into the darkest anxiety syndrome, often times a prelude to real depression or psychosis.

This syndrome is "simply" a reflection of a marked maladjustment of man to the civilization in which he lives, a reality that, seen through the eyes of a "patient", is a field undermined by hostile and dangerous stimuli.

The anxiety syndrome is one of the most difficult psychological disorders, considering that anxiety - which can suddenly break out - is the effect of a multiplicity of elements set one on the other: the anxious syndrome is a vicious circle comprising confused thoughts, unfounded fears, anxiety, torment and sometimes obsession, which often lead to unpleasant bodily sensations.

Unfortunately, the anxiety syndrome is often underestimated by family members, sometimes even by specialists in the sector: anxiety is a disorder with many facets, enriched by complex, vague and imprecise disorders, which only the expert doctor is able to dissect and solve.

Psychological therapy

We have come to analyze another decisive point concerning the anxious syndrome: the resolution of the problem or, better to say, the therapeutic strategies actually adequate to redeem the patient from the disease. The point is that treating the patient suffering from anxiety syndrome is very complex, not only for etiological research (therefore the investigation of the triggering causes), but also for the therapy itself: it is not uncommon for patients diagnosed with a syndrome anxious they are rather skeptical about the effectiveness of medical treatments, so they tend not to respond appropriately to the proposed therapy. Unfortunately, the anxiety syndrome is often treated with powerful drugs, such as benzodiazepines and synthetic substances that act directly as mood modulators: certainly effective, but often responsible for numerous rather serious side effects, such as addiction.

We reported the extremes: in the first case the anxious syndrome is underestimated, therefore it remains neglected, in the second it is treated with too powerful drugs, for long periods and with excess of superficiality, triggering heavy consequences.

In the next article some possible natural remedies will be analyzed, useful to counteract the mild and medium forms of anxiety syndrome.
