Deep flexor of fingers

The deep flexor muscle of the fingers is located deep in the antero-lateral region of the forearm. It originates from the proximal two thirds of the anterior ulna face, from the antibrachial fascia, from the medial part of the interosseous membrane and from the medial margin of the radium. In the middle of the forearm the belly is divided into 4 bundles which are inserted with the same number of tendons at the bases of the distal phalanges of the 2nd-5th finger. It runs through the carpal canal where its tendons are lined with the tendons of the superficial flexor muscle of the fingers from a common tendinous sheath. Its tendons pass through eyelets created in the 1st phalanges by tendons of the superficial flexor muscle of the fingers. For this reason it is also called a perforating muscle .

With its action it flexes the distal interphalangeal of the fingers from the second to the fifth (it flexes the third phalanx of the 2nd-5th finger on the phalanx of the 2-5th finger), it intervenes in the flexion of the proximal interphalangeal (it bends the second phalanx of 2 ° -5th finger on the first phalanx of the 2-5th finger); intervenes in the adduction of index, annular and little finger and in flexion of the wrist. It is the only muscle that can flex the distal phalanx.

It is innervated by the palate interosseous nerve, the median nerve (lateral half) and the ulnar nerve (middle medial) (C7-T1). It is sprayed from the anterior interosseous artery and the ulnar artery.
