Small round

The small round muscle is the shortest of the shoulder muscles. It is located on the lateral margin of the scapula and originates from the infraspinous fossa above the origin of the large round muscle.

It is inserted into the lower facet of the large humeral tuberosity

With its action, synergistic with the infraspinatus, the arm rotates weakly outwards. It also participates in stabilizing the scapulohumeral articulation. It is one of the four muscles that make up the rotator cuff (supraspinatus, subspinate, subscapularis and small round). It is innervated by the axillary nerve (C5-C6).

INSERTION
