Kiwi species

The Genus Actinidia comprises about 60 species. Although most kiwis are easily recognizable (thanks to a similar shape), in detail their fruits may seem quite variable.

The skin of the kiwi changes in terms of size, shape, hairiness and color. The pulp can differ in color, juiciness, texture and taste. It is also vital to remember that some fruits are unsightly on the palate, while others boast considerably better taste than most commercial types.

The most common kiwi is the "fuzzy kiwifruit" (translated: hairy kiwi), from Species A. deliciosa, in Italy known as "green kiwi". Other rather common are "golden kiwifruit" or "kiwi gold" ( A. chinensis ), "chinese egg gooseberry" or "egg of Chinese gooseberry" ( A. coriacea ), "baby kiwifruit" or "small kiwi" ( A. arguta ), "arctic kiwifruit" or "arctic kiwi" ( A. kolomikta ), "red kiwifruit" or "red kiwi" ( A. melanandra ), "silver vine" or "silver vine" ( A. polygama ) and "purple kiwifruit "or" purple kiwi "( A. purpurea ).
