How can you reduce the risk of a heart attack?

The heart attack - more properly called myocardial infarction - is the pathological process due to which the flow of blood destined for the myocardium (or the heart muscle) is inadequate to the requests.

Often caused by atherosclerosis, this serious condition causes necrosis (ie death) of myocardial tissue and a reduction in the contractile capacity of the heart

What makes a heart attack less likely?

Doctors advise, first of all, to adopt a healthy lifestyle, that is:

  • Eat in a balanced way, avoiding fatty, sweet and high-protein food
  • Plan a diet that includes fruits, vegetables and whole grains
  • Practice physical activity regularly
  • Not smoking
  • Drink alcohol in moderate quantities or don't drink at all
Therefore, they recommend with equal care to lose the excess body weight, undergo periodic blood glucose checks (especially if you are a person at risk of diabetes), keep blood pressure under control (especially if you are an individual at risk of hypertension) and finally check periodically for cholesterol levels in the blood (especially if you are an individual at risk of hypercholesterolemia).
