Hands: how to strengthen fragile nails

The hands and nails are a clear indicator of physical well-being.

Weak and brittle nails can be synonymous with iron deficiencies (especially among women), vitamins (especially those of group B) and minerals, including phosphorus and calcium. In this case, you need to supplement your diet with spinach, lentils, beans, cereals and fish.

In other cases, the fragility of the nails is a consequence of the presence of basic pathologies, such as those of the thyroid. An endocrinological examination allows to ascertain the problem and to address the most appropriate therapy. The treatment, in addition to controlling the thyroid malfunction itself, will also make the nails and hair stronger.

Even their incorrect "maintenance" has a negative effect. Water and detergents, in fact, deplete the hydro-lipid film of the skin of the hands and the keratin of the nails, making them more fragile. For this reason, after a bath or shower, you should wait a couple of hours before applying the nail polish.

As for the manicure, it is important to choose a nail file with a grit (degree of abrasiveness) of 180-240, that is with a medium-thin grain. In fact, over time, the use of scissors encourages flaking. The nail should then be filed, always in the same direction with firm and firm movements and not alternating from right to left. This makes it possible to obtain a uniform and more accurate result, in addition to favoring a more robust regrowth.
