The weight of a person is calculated through mathematical formulas that have been developed after years of studies conducted on thousands of subjects. These formulas are concerned with calculating the ideal weight, which in truth is not always concise with the ideal weight.
By entering the sex, age and height in the spaces provided, you can instantly calculate your theoretical weight .
Form weight calculation
The mathematical formulas used in this module are available in the following article: Calculation of the ideal weightWeight form, health and psyche
Reaching and maintaining an acceptable weight means, today more than ever, protecting your body from numerous health-related diseases (cardiovascular diseases, some cancers, diabetes and other minor pathologies). The risk of developing these diseases is directly proportional to the gap between one's weight and the ideal one.
Getting away from the weight too much can have serious repercussions also from the psychological point of view (alteration of the personality, low self-esteem, social isolation, etc.), further lowering the quality of life.
Weight form and sport
If the "height / weight" formulas we have proposed have a high significance in the medical and social field, the same cannot be said for the sports sector. For some athletes (wrestlers, body builders, sumo wrestlers) the weight is much higher than the theoretical one while for others (dancers, cyclists, marathon runners) it is essential to fall below the standard values.
Reach and maintain a healthy weight
Some clarifications:
in practical terms it is better to target a weight range in which to return rather than a precise value. Variations of 1-2 kg are in fact quite common (they can be caused by dehydration / water retention, glycogen depletion / saturation of glucose stocks)
the real challenge for many people is not so much to reach the right weight as to keep it for a long time
if an individual has a strong bone structure and practices power sports by applying the height / weight formulas it could be out of shape without this being due to an excess of fat mass. In fact, nature has provided for different types of body to exist:
- Brevilinea (thick or heavy bone)
- Normolinea (medium bone)
- Longilinea (small or light bone)
to find out which morphological type you are measuring the circumference of your right wrist (in centimeters) at the base of the hand, apply the following formula and compare it with the data shown in the table
Morphological type
MORPHOLOGICAL TYPE | MAN | WOMAN |
lanky | More than 10.4 | More than 10.9 |
normolineo | 9.6 to 10.4 | 9.9 to 10.9 |
brevilineo | Less than 9.6 | Less than 9.9 |
If you fall into the long-limbed category, the previously calculated form weight is too high (reduce it by 5%), but if you return to the category of short-liners the ideal weight is higher than that indicated by our automatic calculator (increase by 5%).
How many calories to reach the right weight?
To achieve and maintain healthy weight, it is very important to monitor your calorie intake. To do this it is first necessary to calculate the daily caloric requirement in relation to the type of work performed, the age and the level of physical activity.
Choose your diet!
Now that you've discovered your healthy weight and the calories needed to maintain it, maybe it's time to go on a diet. Fortunately for you, we have already prepared healthy and balanced dietary models to inspire you:
