Purifying liver tea

The purifying liver tea proposed in this article uses the hepatoprotective, choleretic and cholagogue properties of some medicinal plants. Milk thistle is undoubtedly the most representative ingredient of this herbal tea for the liver, the only one for which there is significant evidence of a possible hepatoprotective role.

With this term it is usually emphasized the ability of a drug, or a herbal remedy, to promote health and liver function; in vitro, for example, milk thistle has been shown to stimulate liver regeneration after toxic substance damage. Equally known and documented are its antioxidant properties, which protect liver cells from damage caused by free radicals. The active ingredients of milk thistle are poorly soluble in water, which is why infusions are generally preferred dry extracts standardized in silymarin.

Turmeric, like dandelion and mint, exhibits cholagogic and choleretic properties (it favors the production of bile and its outflow towards the intestine). It is no coincidence that the dandelion and mint are recommended by the German E commission for digestive disorders, as well as for liver and biliary tract disorders (like turmeric).

Cumin is perhaps the best known and most effective carminative drug, capable of promoting the expulsion of gas from the stomach and especially from the intestine; like the other drugs described above, the alcoholic extracts of cumin have shown the ability to stimulate the bile flow in experimental animals.

INDICATIONS FOR USE: symptomatic treatment of digestive disorders, hyperlipidic and high-protein diet, hypercholesterolemia, liver fatigue due to prolonged alcohol intake, drugs (extasi, amphetamines) or hepatosal drugs (paracetamol, diclofenac, valproic acid, anabolic steroids, estrogens, birth control pills), statins). In the presence of real liver diseases, the use of standardized extracts is more suitable, given that the therapeutic efficacy of herbal teas is generally modest.
