E400 ALGINIC ACID

Alginic acid is a natural compound extracted from different types of brown algae (washed, ground and chemically treated, in particular the pulp) belonging to the Phaeophyceae family, widespread especially in America.

Alginic acid is a compound with a predominantly thickening and emulsifying function.

Alginic acid is contained in various products, such as ice cream creams, instant desserts, puddings, pudding cakes, soft drinks etc.

At the concentrations normally used, no negative side effects caused by this substance are known, while at high doses the alginic acid could decrease the intestinal absorption of iron and also of other minerals.
