Indications ELLEC 1000 ® Levocarnitina

ELLEC 1000 ® is indicated in the prophylaxis and treatment of primary and secondary carnitine deficiencies.

Mechanism of action ELLEC 1000 ® Levocarnitina

ELLEC 1000 ® is a medicinal product based on levocarnitinta, a trimethylated amino acid derivative, mainly synthesized at the hepatic and renal level starting from two essential amino acids such as methionine and lysine in the presence of vitamin B1, B6 and C.

Its main biological role is that of a long chain fatty acid carrier, necessary to guarantee their transport to the level of the mitochondrial matrix, the consequent oxidation and transformation into energy.

The lipid metabolism plays a key role in the body's energy balance, representing the most yielding and prevalent energy source in some vital tissues such as the heart, so abnormalities of the aforementioned metabolic pathways inevitably affect the functionality of these organs.

Despite the pharmacokinetic characteristics significantly limit the availability of carnitine taken orally, 10 - 20% of the total dose taken, is sufficient to meet the daily requirement of this molecule, allowing a restoration of muscle stocks and preserving the metabolic fate of fatty acids to long chain.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. THE EFFECTS OF CARNITINE IN ATELTS

Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab. 2011 Oct; 2: 37-44. Epub 2011 Jan 26.

Work demonstrating how carnitine supplementation can improve the clinical characteristics of cancer patients characterized by cachexia. More precisely, a reduction in the loss of muscle mass was observed in the face of a reduction in fatigue and a clear improvement in the quality of life.

3. CARNITINE IN INTESTINAL INFLAMMATORY DISEASES

Vitam Horm. 2011; 86: 353-66.

Experimental work demonstrating an important association between carnitine deficiency and chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease. In these cases, carnitine intake could improve the integrity of the epithelial barrier, reducing the cytotoxic effects induced by reactive oxygen species.

Method of use and dosage

ELLEC 1000 ®

Single dose vials for oral use of 1 g of L-carnitine.

The intake of 2-4 gr of levocarnitine per day, preferably divided into several doses, is sufficient to satisfy the needs of this molecule even in pathological conditions.

The precise dosage, however, should be formulated by the doctor, based on age, physical characteristics and the severity of the patient's clinical picture.

In pediatric age the amount of carnitine used undergoes important variations, therefore requiring necessarily the intervention of the specialist.

Warnings ELLEC 1000 ® Levocarnitina

The intake of ELLEC 1000 ® in diabetic patients should be accompanied by constant monitoring of blood glucose, note the ability of carnitine to optimize glucose metabolism, facilitating glucose uptake and consumption.

Particular attention should also be paid to patients suffering from kidney diseases, in which the impaired excretion could facilitate the accumulation of potentially toxic catabolites.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

ELLEC 1000 ® could be used during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of lactation always under strict medical supervision.

Interactions

No clinically relevant drug interactions are currently known.

Contraindications ELLEC 1000 ® Levocarnitina

The use of ELLEC 1000 ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Levocarnitine administration, especially when performed at high doses, could result in adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal disorders, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

More rarely, neurological disorders such as headache, insomnia, restlessness and convulsions have been observed in severe cases.

In both cases, fortunately, the symptomatology readily re-enters once the therapy is suspended.

Note

ELLEC 1000 ® is salable exclusively with a medical prescription.
