Pomfi - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

The wheals are solid lesions, detected with respect to the skin plane, perceptible to the touch, transient and usually itchy. These eruptions manifest themselves by edema from vasodilation of the dermis.

The wheals have a reddish or pale pearly color (similar to porcelain) with a rosy area on the periphery.

The wheal is a characteristic symptom of hives: this cutaneous manifestation results from the release of histamine, which causes vasodilation, redness, edema and dryness. The eruption disappears within 24 hours. The most affected regions are the face, arms and trunk.

The wheal is also the lesion that appears on the skin following a mosquito bite or as a consequence of food allergies and hypersensitivity reactions to drugs.
