The strabismus of Venus: a divine look

In popular parlance, the expression " strabismus of Venus " is used to indicate a very mild form of divergent strabismus, where the deviated eye looks outward. This "imperfection" is considered by many a detail capable of making a person's gaze more interesting and intriguing.

The origin of the term derives from a small defect that made Venus famous, goddess of beauty and love. According to mythology, in fact, this slight divergence of the eyes made the gaze of the goddess charming and sensual. Also Sandro Botticelli, in his famous work "The Birth of Venus" wanted to bring back this "divine defect", painting the eyes of the goddess not perfectly aligned.
