Further indications

The presence of blood in the stool can be a symptom of colon cancer. Traces of blood on toilet paper are, for example, a typical symptom of hemorrhoids or anal fissures. Likewise, color changes in the stool can result from taking iron supplements or some anti-diarrheal medicines. In many cases, moreover, the bleeding associated with a colon cancer in an early stage is not appreciable with the naked eye. The presence of blood in the stool is however a symptom that should not be underestimated and should always be reported to your doctor, especially in the presence of familiarity with the disease and after 50 years (age beyond which periodic screening is recommended in the general population ).
