Indications GLITISOL ® - Thiamphenicol

GLITISOL ® is an antibiotic indicated for the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to the Amfenicoli, and in particular to thiamphenicol.

Mechanism of action GLITISOL ® - Thiamphenicol

GLITISOL ®, an antibiotic based on thiamphenicol, is a medicinal product belonging to the category of antimicrobial chemotherapy with bacteriostatic activity extended to both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, Rickettzie, Mycoplasmas and Chlamydia.

This activity is performed by the inhibitory action of protein synthesis, mediated by the ability of the active principle to bind the 50S ribosomal subunit, thus preventing the peptidyl-transferase enzyme from providing for the lengthening of the peptide chain.

The arrest of protein synthesis evidently inhibits the anabolic and proliferative capacities of the various micro-organisms, thus controlling the spread of infection, despite the increasingly intense appearance of resistance mechanisms characterized by the production of acetyl-transferase and nitroreductases capable of esterifying and inactivating the antibiotic, mutations of the biological target and expression of efflux pumps capable of reducing the antimicrobial efficacy of the therapy.

Therapeutic activity is also facilitated by the good pharmacokinetic characteristics of thiamphenicol, which allow the active principle to spread easily in all tissues, to be subsequently eliminated both by renal and bile.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

ASMA DA TIAMFENICOLO

Interesting case report that demonstrates some of the potential allergenic effects of thiamphenicol, such as the appearance of asthma following drug intake, supported by the presence of specific IgE for the active ingredient.

TIAMFENICOLO TREATMENT IN DONOVANOSI

Study demonstrating the efficacy and safety of thiamphenicol in the treatment of donovanosis, a sexually transmitted infection, also known as inguinal granuloma supported by Calymmatobacterium granulomatis

TIAMFENICOLO EFFECTIVENESS AND SAFETY

Work conducted on over 800 patients demonstrating that thiamphenicol taken through aerosol is effective and safe in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, guaranteeing prompt eradication of the pathogenic microorganism.

Method of use and dosage

GLITISOL ®

Lyophilisate and solvent for 500 mg of thiamphenicol per vial.

GLITISOL ® can be administered according to needs either systemically, intramuscular or intravenous injection, or topically, aerosol or bronchus instillations.

The dosage and the route of intake should necessarily be defined by your doctor based on the physio-pathological characteristics of the patient, the severity of the clinical picture and the therapeutic goals.

Warnings GLITISOL ® - Thiamphenicol

The use of GLITISOL ® must be preceded and supervised by medical personnel.

In fact, treatment with thiamphenicol may lead to the appearance of haematological alterations, alterations in liver and kidney function, which can aggravate the patient's clinical picture.

For this reason and by virtue of the pharmacokinetic properties previously described, the intake of GLITISOL ® should be carried out with particular caution in patients suffering from renal diseases or with a previous history of bone marrow failure.

It is recommended to keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Given the ability of thiamphenicol to cross both the placental barrier and the mammary filter reaching fetus and suckling at pharmacologically active concentrations, we generally discourage the use of GLITISOL ® during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding.

Interactions

The scientific literature does not currently report cases in drug interactions between thiamphenicol and other clinically relevant active ingredients.

Despite this it would be advisable to avoid the simultaneous administration of active ingredients with myodontic, nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic potential.

Contraindications GLITISOL ® - Thiamphenicol

GLITISOL ® is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients and in severe renal failure.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Although the use of GLITISOL ® is generally well tolerated and has no clinically relevant side effects, clinical experience shows cases of gastrointestinal disorders and changes in the hematological pattern following use, especially prolonged in time of thiamphenicol.

Note

GLITISOL ® is a prescription-only drug.
