  • Dizziness

Further indications

Myringitis is characterized by an intense and persistent ear pain, which appears suddenly, radiating to the corresponding half of the head. Furthermore, inflammation of the tympanic membrane leads to hypoacusis and fever.

The rupture of vesicles on the tympanic membrane can occur with the loss of a few drops of blood or serum emulsion from the ear canal.

Diagnosis is based on the otoscopic finding of vesicles on the tympanic membrane.

Myringitis usually resolves within a few days. The treatment of bacterial forms involves the administration of antibiotics effective against the responsible microorganisms.

Pain can be relieved by vesicle perforation on the tympanic membrane with a myringotomy needle or by instilling analgesic ear drops (eg benzocaine and antipyrine). Oral analgesics (eg oxycodone and paracetamol) can also be useful in controlling otalgia.
