Directions PROVIRON ® - Mesterolone

PROVIRON ® is used in the treatment of symptoms associated with androgen deficiency, and the intellectual and physical decline of old age.

Mechanism of action PROVIRON ® - Mesterolone

The mesterolone contained in PROVIRON ® is a synthetic derivative of testosterone, obtained by methylation of dihydrotestosterone, which makes this hormone resistant to oral intake without undergoing inactivation at the liver level.

In fact taken orally, it is absorbed at the intestinal level, reaching its maximum systemic concentration within 3 hours of intake, and persisting in circulation for about 8 hours.

Linked to plasma proteins and in particular to Sex Hormon Binding Protein, it reaches the various tissues where it is converted into dihydrotesterone and carries out its important therapeutic action especially for:

  • the anabolic role, useful for preserving muscle and bone mass while ensuring an increase in hematopoietic activity;
  • the sexual role, necessary both in improving erection and sexual power and desire.

One of the main advantages linked to the use of mesterolone, in addition to the easy way of taking it, is represented by the low estrogenic activity that avoids inhibition to the pituitary level of gonadotropin secretion, therefore the subsequent testicular depression, accompanied in the most serious cases also from atrophy.
