Indications SOFARGEN ® - Sulfadiazine

SOFARGEN ® is used clinically in the prophylaxis and treatment of local infections in case of burns, ulcers, bedsores and pathologies of dermatological interest susceptible to bacterial infections.

Mechanism of action SOFARGEN ® - Sulfadiazine

SOFARGEN ® is an antibiotic for topical use particularly effective in the prophylaxis and treatment of local dermatological infectious diseases, thanks to the combined action of the silver ion and the sulphadiazine radical.

The Silver ion in fact carries out the bactericidal action through mechanisms of action not yet fully known, while the Sulfadiazine radical competing with the para-aminobenzoic enzyme interferes in the synthesis of folates by blocking the mechanisms of bacterial replication and therefore exerting an important bacteriostatic activity .

Both active ingredients exert their action at the local level, not being absorbed systemically in concentrations such as to manifest therapeutic or side effects.

Several studies have demonstrated the significant antimicrobial action of SOFARGEN ® both against dermatological lesions associated with systemic pathologies such as varicose ulcers, and against serious second and third degree traumas and burns in which both prophylactic and therapeutic action was effective .

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

SULFADIAZINA ARGENTICA vs ZINC OXIDE

Experimental study that evaluates the differences between the use of zinc oxide and silver sulfadiazine, demonstrating how the first solution can be more effective in inducing re-epithelialization of the lesion while the second in preventing infectious complications.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SULFADIAZINA FOR THE USIONS OF THE FACE

Work that demonstrates how the application of silver sulfadiazine can be effective and safe even for face burns, in preventing the onset of bacterial infections and related complications.

NEW RELEASE SYSTEMS FOR ARGENTIC SULPHADIAZINE

Study that tests the efficacy of new systems for the release of silver sulfadiazine compared to conventional creams.

The results observed so far confirm the greater effectiveness of these nano delivery systems.

Method of use and dosage

SOFARGEN ®

Hydrophilic 1 g cream of silver sulfadiazine per 100 g of product.

The application of a 2-3 mm layer of cream directly on the affected lesion rather than on a support such as a sterile gauze, generally guarantees a preventive and therapeutic action against bacterial infections.

In order to optimize therapeutic efficacy it is recommended to thoroughly cleanse the area before and after each application using sterile disposable gloves.

Warnings SOFARGEN ® - Sulfadiazine

Although topical application of SOFARGEN ® minimizes the systemic absorption of the drug, it should be remembered that massive use, especially on large and seriously compromised surfaces, could increase the systemic concentrations of the drug exposing the patient, especially that suffering from kidney disease, possible complications.

It is also recommended to avoid direct exposure to ultraviolet rays following the use of SOFARGEN ®, given the potential risk of photosensitivity.

The presence of propylene glycol in SOFARGEN ®, could cause further dehydration of burns following prolonged application over time and on large surfaces.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Given the absence of experimental studies able to characterize the safety profile of SOFARGEN ® for fetal health, it is possible to extend the aforementioned contraindications to the use of the drug also for pregnancy and the subsequent breastfeeding period.

Interactions

The low systemic absorption of the drug significantly reduces the risk of clinically relevant drug interactions.

However, the simultaneous application of local proteolytic enzymes in the same treatment area should be avoided.

Contraindications SOFARGEN ® - Sulfadiazine

The use of SOFARGEN ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of SOFARGEN ® is generally safe and well tolerated.

The incidence of side effects such as transient leukopenia, pain and burning in the office and local allergic reactions is rarely described.

Note

SOFARGEN ® is a prescription drug prescribed by a doctor.
