vaccination

Is there an HPV vaccine for men too?

In humans, human Papilloma virus (HPV) infections can be linked to the development of some cancers of the penis or anus, which are less frequent than those on the cervix.

As for young males, the HPV vaccine has proved its effectiveness and has been approved for the prevention of genital warts . Extending vaccination to sexually active men could reduce the circulation of the virus and infection-related diseases. Furthermore, it would help to increase the protection of the female population, as it should be remembered that males are jointly responsible for sexually transmitted HPV. An application of these vaccines on a global level could theoretically reduce the female cancer risk by 12-15% and the male one by 4-5%.

Currently, national anti-HPV vaccination programs are free only for girls who have not yet become infected. The possibility of extending the vaccination of males is being evaluated. In the meantime, if desired, it is possible to vaccinate children up to 15 years of age, following the doctor's instructions and prescription. The HPV vaccine can be purchased at the pharmacy.
