Indications AUREOMICINA ® Clortetracycline

AUREOMICINA ® ointment is an antibiotic for topical use effective in the treatment of skin infections sustained by Gram positive Gram negative bacteria.

Mechanism of action AUREOMICINA ® Chlortetracycline

Chlortetracycline, the active ingredient of AUREOMICINA ®, is one of the founders of the first generation tetracycline family, extracted as early as the early 40s from cultures of Streptomyces aureofaciens.

The characteristic chemical-physical properties of this compound have allowed the formulation in ointments for topical use, able to guarantee the release of effective quantities of chlortetracycline directly in the center, thus carrying out a local therapeutic effect, able to minimize the potential side effects associated with systemic tetracycline therapy.

Chlortetracycline, once permeated the bacterial wall of the microorganism, diffuses into the cytosol by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thus preventing t-RNA from yielding its own amino acid necessary for elongation of the peptide chain.

In this way the tetracyclines, by inhibiting the protein synthesis of the bacteria, compromise their structural and metabolic properties, exerting at low doses a predominantly bacteriostatic action which becomes bactericidal at more significant dosages.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1 CLORTETRACYCLINE AND OCULAR INFECTIONS FROM CLAMIDIA

Br J Ophthalmol. 1981 Aug; 65 (8): 549-52.

Work demonstrating that treatment with chlorotetracycline in just six weeks can significantly improve the clinical and microbiological conditions of patients suffering from Chlamydia eye infections.

2 . OVERGROWTH INTESTINAL BATERRICA AND CLORTETRACYCLINE

Aliment Pharmacol Ther. 2000 May; 14 (5): 551-6.

Interesting study that demonstrates how the advent of new antibiotics can eliminate some clinical indications historically reserved for the clortetraticlina, such as for example the intestinal bacterial overgrowth, often associated with malabsorption and abdominal pain.

3.CLORTETRATICICLINA AND ECOLOGICAL POLLUTION

Chemosphere. 2012 Jun; 87 (11): 1254-9. Epub 2012 Feb 15.

Ecological health study that demonstrates some of the potential damage associated with the bad disposal of special waste. In fact, this work denounces the toxic action of phytoplankton and marine species of chlorotetracycline and its degradation products in marine waters.

Method of use and dosage

AUREOMYCIN ®

30 mg chlortetracycline hydrochloride ointment per gram of solution.

In the treatment of pyoderma it is recommended to apply AUREOMICINA ® locally one or more times a day according to the needs and according to medical indications.

In order to reduce possible cross-contamination it would be advisable to apply the antibiotic to the lesion using a sterile gauze.

Warnings AUREOMICINA ® Clortetracycline

The therapy with AUREOMICINA ®, despite the low side effects, should be preceded by a medical examination useful to exclude the possible presence of conditions incompatible with the therapy based on antibiotics.

Prolonged use of AUREOMICINA ® could lead to the onset of sensitization reactions, sometimes even serious, and the spread of microbial strains resistant to common antibiotic therapy.

Should the aforementioned effects appear, it would be advisable to contact your doctor immediately, suspending therapy and instituting a new one.

The use of tetracycline exposes the patient to the risk of burns, erythema and dermatological reactions following exposure to ultraviolet rays, due to the photosensitivity induced by the antibiotic.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Although topical use minimizes the systemic absorption of tetracycline, thus controlling the onset of potential side effects, it would be advisable to limit the use of AUREOMICINA ® as much as possible during pregnancy and in the subsequent breastfeeding period.

The possible use of AUREOMICINA ® should be supervised by the specialist doctor.

Interactions

At the moment active ingredients capable of interfering with the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of chlortetracycline taken topically are not known.

Contraindications AUREOMICINA ® Chlortetracycline

The use of AUREOMICINA ® is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tetracycline and its excipients.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Topical use of AUREOMICINA ® allows to minimize the potential side effects associated with tetracycline therapy, thus increasing tolerability and efficacy of drug therapy.

In fact, only in rare cases the appearance of hypersensitivity reactions to the antibiotic was observed, characterized by erythema, edema and itching during administration.

Note

AUREOMYCIN ® is a prescription drug.
