What to do if an animal is bitten

When you are bitten by an animal it is good to follow some tips to avoid infections and serious diseases, such as rabies and tetanus.

Immediate care must be aimed at meticulously cleaning the wound, which must first be washed with antibacterial soap and water, then carefully disinfected and protected with sterile gauze.

It is therefore advisable for the bite victim to go to the emergency room, where tetanus and / or rabies prophylaxis may be carried out. In some cases, skin lacerations from dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits or other human beings must be sutured or surgically debrided. Treatment of infected lesions includes antibiotic prophylaxis according to the specific infection and the clinical picture.
