Restlessness - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

Restlessness is a state of psycho-motor agitation that manifests itself with a sense of anxiety associated with an increased need to move or do something.

This sensation is often caused by stress and lifestyle irregularities, but can also be induced by emotional impulses or organic affections (cardiovascular shock, bronchial asthma, pulmonary embolism, diabetes, epilepsy, some brain tumors, etc.).

Restlessness can also be found during delusions and in the context of psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc.). This state also manifests itself in those who abuse alcohol or drugs.
