Directions OFTAQUIX ® Levofloxacin

OFTAQUIX ® is indicated in the topical treatment of external ocular infections generated by organisms sensitive to Levofloxacin.

Mechanism of action OFTAQUIX ® Levofloxacin

Levofloxacin, active ingredient of OFTAQUIX ®, is an antibacterial belonging to the family of Fluoroquinolones, active against a wide spectrum of Gram positive and Gram negative aerobic microorganisms, often involved in the genesis of external eye infections.

Its mechanism of action, effective even after topical administration, involves the arrest of bacterial DNA replication processes following the inhibition of the activity of bacterial enzymes such as DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerases, generally involved in processes of replication.

Despite the excellent efficacy of action, often the therapeutic activity of OFTAQUIX ® is compromised by the onset of bacterial resistance mechanisms, such as to prevent the drug from reaching therapeutic concentrations within the microorganism or to effectively bind the therapeutic target, reducing therapeutic success and worsening the clinical prognosis.

Depending on the severity of the clinical picture and the therapeutic response observed, the doctor should define the duration of the therapy.

Warnings OFTAQUIX ® Levofloxacin

OFTAQUIX ® therapy must necessarily be preceded by a careful medical examination aimed at clarifying the infectious origin of the complained symptomatology and any prescriptive appropriateness.

It is recommended to avoid the use of contact lenses during OFTAQUIX ® therapy.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The use of OFTAQUIX ® is generally contraindicated during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding, due to the absence of studies able to fully characterize the safety profile of the drug for the health of the fetus and infant.
