Product features Creatine pyruvate - Scitec Nutrition

Creatine pyruvate is a molecule formed by creatine and pyruvic acid, linked together through covalent bonds. Also this form is born with the main objective to improve the solubility in aqueous environment, and to reduce both the formation of background bodies and the metabolization to creatinine, both responsible for some of the most common side effects, such as abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Contrary to what happens for other forms of creatine, alternatives to the monohydrate one, for the creatine pyruvate there are some studies in the literature that show an effective advantage deriving from its use, both in pharmacokinetic and ergogenic terms.

Creatine - key molecule for muscle metabolism; it is responsible for the energy supply in the early stages of contraction. Creatine introduced through the diet, or synthesized endogenously, reaches the muscular level by penetrating into the sarcoplasm, using specific sodium dependent and insulin-induced membrane transporters. Once inside the skeletal muscle fiber, where more than 95% is concentrated, creatine can easily cross the inner mitochondrial membrane and stop in the intermembrane space, where it is phosphorylated by the creatine kinase in phosphocreatine. The phosphocreatine will leave the intermembrane space, moving close to the myofibrils, where during the first minute of intense exercise, it will be able to transfer its phosphate group (high energy reserve) directly to the ADP, mediating the synthesis of ATP necessary to sustain the process contractile. During this process, part of the phosphocreatine will be hydrolyzed by a non-enzymatic mechanism in creatinine, and eliminated at the renal level with a clearance of around 2 grams per day.

Creatine introduced with nutrition or through specific supplements, can help endogenously in restoring depleted muscle stocks. The ingestion of about 20 grams of creatine for at least 5 days is in fact able to increase the muscle creatine pull up to 17% and the phosphocreatine content by 7.6%, definitely improving the energy potential of the muscle.

Pyruvate - alpha keto acid also known as pyruvic acid, a fundamental crossroads of cellular energy metabolism. Produced for example following glycolysis, it can continue according to the oxidative way, originating acetyl CoA, necessary to support the Krebs cycle, or in the case of anaerobic conditions to be lactate fermented. Just as it is involved in catabolic pathways, pyruvate also plays a key role in the control of anabolic phases, guaranteeing the synthesis of glucose through a process known as gluconeogenesis. Some studies have experimented with its use in sports, achieving good results in improving aerobic performance and in glycogen resynthesis.

At high doses, above 30 g / day, side effects can occur in the gastro-intestinal tract.

Rational integration into the sport of Creatine pyruvate - Scitec Nutrition

Among the alternative forms to creatine monohydrate, the one linked to pyruvate appears to be the most promising and the most characterized. In literature, in fact, there are studies that not only evaluate the ergogenic effectiveness of this form, but that even compare it to that of creatine monohydrate.

Firstly, pharmacokinetic tests have shown - in addition to the better solubility in aqueous environment, with the reduction of the side effects associated with the presence of insoluble residues - a more consistent plasma peak in creatine compared to that obtained with creatine monohydrate.

The administration of creatine pyruvate at 5 grams / day for 28 days proved to be particularly effective in improving the maximum strength peak by about 20% and in reducing the feeling of fatigue during an interval workout, probably reducing the production of ammonia, accomplice to the onset of the feeling of fatigue.

Important improvements were achieved in adaptation to anaerobic training and body composition in the group of professional athletes treated with creatine pyruvate, compared to the group treated with creatine monohydrate.

However, two studies should be mentioned, in which creatine pyruvate did not produce any improvement in the athletic performance of competitive cyclists.

Recommended use by the company - Creatine pyruvate - Scitec Nutrition

It is recommended to take one capsule a day.

Use in sports Creatine pyruvate - Scitec Nutrition

In the case of creatine pyruvate, specific or different dosages are not defined with respect to creatine monohydrate. However, in the studies published in the literature, the most replicated dosage is that of 5 grams / day for 28 days, capable of bringing a significant improvement in aerobic performance. Even in this case, however, it could be possible to carry out a preventive loading phase for about 6 days at 0.3 g per kg of lean mass / day, followed by a protracted maintenance for at least 3> weeks at 0.06 g per kg of lean mass / die. In any case, the integration cycle should never exceed 4 weeks, as a reduction in endogenous creatine synthesis after prolonged prolonged supplements is widely documented.

Sinergie Creatina pyruvate - Scitec Nutrition

There are no specific studies that test the synergy between creatine pyruvate and other nutrients, therefore also in this case we report the published data for creatine monohydrate.

Carbohydrates + Creatine: taken in the hour before the race they guarantee an important energy support. Furthermore, creatine muscle uptake appears to be significantly enhanced by insulin released following carbohydrate intake, with an increase of more than 60% compared to that obtained with creatine alone.

Some evidences also show an increase in the levels of the glucose transporter GLUT 4, on muscle tissue following the intake of creatine, with an increase in glycogen resynthesis capacities; this action could be used in the post-workout anabolic window.

Carbohydrates + creatine + proteins: guarantees an increase in absorption comparable to that present only for simple carbohydrates. In this case, however, there would be a potential advantage both on the nutritional intake of the snack and a reduction in the potentially glycemic peak.

CLA + creatine + protein : at the doses of 6 g, 9 g and 36 g, respectively, taken for 5 weeks, it has been shown to be effective in improving strength and increasing muscle mass by 3 - 4% in combination with strength training.

Arginine + Creatine : seems to provide a better ergogenic boost with an increase in the maximum force peak.

Side effects Creatine pyruvate - Scitec Nutrition

Several studies agree that creatine supplementation is safe in healthy individuals. In particular, studies relating to chronic supplementation (3-5 g / day for one year) and acute (20 g / day for a week) do not show any particular side effects.

However, it should be remembered that ingesting too high or poorly solubilized doses could be accompanied by abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as chronic doses, especially if performed concomitantly with high-protein diets could significantly increase renal load.

Finally, even if it does not represent a real side effect, it must be considered that the increase in weight that derives from the accumulation of water inside the cell, could have a negative impact on performance.
