Indications VENTOLIN ® - Salbutamol

VENTOLIN ® is indicated for the treatment of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with asthma.

Mechanism of action VENTOLIN ® - Salbutamol

VENTOLIN ® is a medicinal product based on Salbutamol, a direct sympathomimetic drug, endowed with agonist activity against adrenergic receptors with particular selectivity towards Beta 2 receptors expressed by smooth muscle.

The assumption for topical life evidently determines a further specificity of action which concentrates mainly on the Beta 2 receptors of the bronchial smooth muscle, determining the activation of this receptor and therefore of the cascade of downstream events, among which the conversion of the 'ATP in AMPc, with consequent relaxation of this musculature.

All this takes the form of an improvement in the patency of the respiratory tract, characterized by a rapid onset of action and a prolonged biological activity for a few hours, such as to significantly improve the ventilatory capacities and the expiratory volume of the patient suffering from bronchial asthma or from chronic obstructive bronchopathy.

The proportion of the systemically absorbed drug, following an intense hepatic metabolism, will be eliminated in the form of inactive catabolites mainly through the kidneys.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

SALBUTAMOLO E PERFORMANCE

Br J Sports Med. 2013 Oct 7. doi: 10.1136 / bjsports-2013-092706. [Epub ahead of print]

Interesting trial that demonstrates how inhalation of salbutamol does not influence athletic performance in asthmatic and non-asthmatic athletes, although it determines an improvement in the classic bronchoconstriction associated with training.

SALBUTAMOLO VS ISTAMINA

Respir Investig. 2013 Sep; 5: 1-216. doi: 10.3310 / hta17450.

Very interesting study that demonstrates the efficacy of Magnesium by inhalation as an adjuvant treatment to that of beta 2 agonists in young patients suffering from acute asthmatic attacks with severe asthma as a basic pathology

Method of use and dosage

VENTOLIN ®

Pressurized inhalation suspension from 24 mg of Salbutamol sulfate equal to 20 mg of Salbutamol per container.

The definition of the methods and timing of intake of Salbutamol is the responsibility of the physician after having carefully evaluated and characterized the severity of the clinical picture and the general health conditions of the affected patient.

Considering that an inhalation is able to release about 100 mcg of Salbutamol, in adults 1-2 inhalations are suggested in the treatment of bronchospasm in the acute phase and in the control of episodic asthma, while it is possible to reach 2 inhalations four times a day in continued asthma therapy.

Warnings VENTOLIN ® - Salbutamol

Therapy with VENTOLIN ® must be understood with therapy for acute asthmatic attack, therefore its use in such patients should be accompanied by a basic therapy for this pathology.

Therefore the physician should define the patient's clinical conditions and simultaneously establish an effective drug therapy before administering this drug.

The increased need to use VENTOLIN ® could highlight an aggravation of the asthmatic situation, worthy of further investigation by the competent doctor.

Given the biological activity of Salbutamol it would be appropriate to limit the use of this drug to cases of real need in patients with cardiovascular diseases, arterial hypertension, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma and diabetes.

The use of Salbutamol, without clinical necessity, is prohibited in and out of the race.

It is recommended to keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The aforementioned contraindications to the use of VENTOLIN ® also extend to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding, given the absence of clinical trials able to better characterize the safety profile of this drug for fetal health and infant.

Interactions

It is recommended to avoid the simultaneous intake of beta agonists such as salbutamol and non-selective beta blockers.

Contraindications VENTOLIN ® - Salbutamol

The use of VENTOLIN ® is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in pregnant and lactating women.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

VENTOLIN ® therapy, especially if it lasts a long time, could lead to the appearance of headache, tremor, tachycardia and palpitations.

Fortunately, the incidence of clinically relevant adverse reactions is rare, such as to require the immediate suspension of the therapy in progress.

Note

VENTOLIN ® is a prescription-only drug.
