Definition

Bladder cancer is a fairly common malignancy, ranking fourth among all malignant cancers in men and eighth among women.

More common in smokers, after age 60 and in patients with recurrent urinary tract inflammation or infections, bladder cancer produces highly non-specific symptoms. The most characteristic are the presence of blood in the urine and the pain during urination.

Further indications

Many of the symptoms associated with bladder cancer are common to various urological diseases, such as benign prostatic hypertrophy, kidney stones, and prostate inflammation.

In 80% of cases the onset symptom is the presence of blood in the urine, generally visible to the naked eye due to their red or rust color. This symptom, although non-specific (we invite you to consult this article for other possible causes of hematuria), must arouse greater suspicion when it is associated with the presence of small blood clots.
