Definition

Urethritis is an inflammatory (inflammatory) process on the urethra, a conduit that carries urine from the bladder to the outside. The main symptom is dysuria, that is to say the objective difficulty of urinating, while the causes of origin are generally of an infectious nature ( Escherichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalis, Chlamydia trachomatis, Herpes simplex, Trichomonas ). Urethritis affects both sexes, but male sex is more common (as opposed to cystitis).

Further indications

The most common symptoms of urethritis are represented by itching in the external urethral meatus and burning on urination. In humans, there is often the presence of urethral secretions, initially whitish and fluid, subsequently purulent and creamy greenish yellow (typical symptoms of infectious forms). In the presence of these symptoms it is important to contact your doctor as soon as possible to avoid complications and chronic conditions.
