Indications INDACO ® Naphazoline and Zinc sulfate

INDACO® is a medicinal specialty indicated for the treatment of irritation of the eye characterized by tearing, burning and itching.

Mechanism of action INDACO ® Naphazoline and Zinc sulfate

INDACO® is a drug consisting of two active ingredients with different and complementary biological activities.

More precisely, Naphazoline is an imidazole derivative endowed with high decongestant power supported by sympathomimetic activity active against alpha 1 and alpha 2 adrenergic receptors, expressed on vascular smooth muscle, and important in reducing the classical vascular congestion evidently associated with edema of ocular mucosa; while zinc sulfate in addition to a modest astringent power is endowed with an important antiseptic activity in reducing the risk of infectious overlaps, often the cause of comorbidity.

Everything is carried out at the local level without systemic complications, thus being effective and safe from a clinical point of view.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

THE USE OF NAFAZOLINA IN MIASTENIA GRAVIS

Muscle Nerve. 2011 Jul; 44 (1): 41-4. doi: 10.1002 / mus.22002. Epub 2011 Apr 12.

Work that demonstrates how the use of naphazoline based eye drops can guarantee an effective improvement of the symptoms related to myasthenia gravis such as blephatroptosis, ie the lowering of the eyelid.

NEUROENDOCRINE EFFECTS OF NAFAZOLINA

Pharmacology. 2002 Jul; 65 (3): 155-61.

Interesting experimental molecular study that tests the ability of nafazoline to alter the neuroendocrine framework by promoting the expression of genes and transcription factors involved in neuroendocrine homeostasis.

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY OF NAFAZOLINA IN COLLIRI

Chem Pharm Bull (Tokyo). 2006 Jan; 54 (1): 119-22.

Technical study that evaluates the effectiveness of various chemical analytical methods in assessing the concentrations of active ingredients such as Naphazoline in eye drops, allowing a more accurate examination of the potential physico-chemical interactions associated with product perishability.

Method of use and dosage

INDACO®

Eye drops of 0.05 mg of Nafazolin nitrate and 0.2 mg of Zinc sulfate per ml of solution.

Usually it is recommended to instill, directly in the conjunctival sac, one drop 3-4 times a day, avoiding exceeding the indicated doses.

Warnings INDACO ® Naphazoline and Zinc sulfate

The intake of INDACO® should be preceded by a careful medical examination in order to clarify the origin of the complained symptomatology and the possible prescriptive appropriateness.

Particular caution should be reserved for patients suffering from diabetes, heart problems and hypertension, given the potential systemic side effects of Nafazolin, albeit rare.

For the same reason it is recommended not to exceed the recommended doses and times, in order to safeguard the safety of the therapy.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The aforementioned contraindications to the use of INDACO® also extend to pregnancy and the subsequent breastfeeding period due to the potential systemic side effects of naphazoline for fetal and infant health.

Interactions

The patient receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors should not take at the same time or before two weeks after discontinuation of INDACO® treatment due to the increased risk of hypertension.

Contraindications INDACO ® Naphazoline and Zinc sulfate

The use of INDACO® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in patients suffering from glaucoma or serious eye diseases and in women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of INDACO® could result in mydriasis, increased intracular pressure, nausea and headache.

Fortunately, the potential systemic side effects of therapy are rarer.

Note

INDACO® is a non-prescription drug.
