Directions DAKTARIN ® Miconazole
DAKTARIN ® is indicated in the treatment of skin infections or cutaneous appendages sustained by fungi such as Candida or dermatophytes even when overlapping with Gram positive bacteria infections.
Mechanism of action DAKTARIN ® Miconazole
DAKTARIN ® is a drug used in dermatology in the treatment of infections caused by yeasts and fungi, thanks to the presence as an active ingredient of Miconazole, an imidazole derivative with a marked antifungal activity directed against Candida, Dermatophytes, Blastomyces and Cocciodioides.
Used topically, it is not minimally absorbed systemically, thus concentrating in therapeutically effective doses in the cytosol of the microorganism and inhibiting the? Enzyme 14 alpha sterol dimethylase, fundamental in the synthesis of? ™ ergosterol, a key component for the structuring of the plasma membrane fungal.
The fragility of this cellular element associated with the impairment of membrane transport mechanisms, due to the accumulation of sterol derivatives coming from the intermediate metabolism of the microorganism, determines the inhibition of the growth of the fungus and the resolution of the symptomatology.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
MICONAZOLE AND CANDIDIASIS OF THE ORAL CABLE
Clin Infect Dis. 2012 May; 54 (10): 1480-4.
Interesting study that tests the effectiveness of new delivery systems, and in particular of muco-adhesive tablets for the treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis, observing an excellent therapeutic response.
INTERACTIONS BETWEEN WARFARIN AND MICONAZOLE
South Med J. 2010 Oct; 103 (10): 1063-5.
Case report demonstrating a potential interaction between Warfarin and intravaginal Metronidazole, responsible for hypeprothrombinemia. This study is important for doctors to consider the possible systemic absorption of Metronidazole taken intravaginally and the consequences on the pharmacokinetic properties of oral anticoagulants.
MICONAZOLE AND CANDIDA RESISTANCE
Mycoses. 2011 Jul; 54 (4): e175-7.
Important study that demonstrates how the multiple exposure of Miconazole does not determine the appearance of resistance mechanisms in Candida strains, responsible for infections of the oral cavity.
Method of use and dosage
DAKTARIN ®
2% miconazole skin powder;
2% Miconazole cream;
2% cutaneous emulsion of Miconazole;
2% Miconazole skin foam;
2% cutaneous solution of Miconazole.
In order to guarantee the maximum success of the therapy it would be necessary to use DAKTARIN ® for over a week from the disappearance of the symptomatology and from the apparent resolution of the infection.
Regardless of the pharmaceutical form used, remembering however that skin dust can be useful in the treatment of wet lesions, it would be advisable to thoroughly clean and dry the area before using DAKTARIN ®.
Solutions, creams or powders must in any case be applied once or twice a day on the region concerned, even in the case of cutaneous appendages such as the nail.
In the latter case, however, it may be advisable to carry out a non-perforated occlusive bandage in order to optimize therapeutic success.
Warnings DAKTARIN ® Miconazole
The use of DAKTARIN ® is generally safe and free from clinically relevant side effects, however in order to maintain high tolerability it would be appropriate:
- Thoroughly clean hands after using DAKTARIN ®, avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes;
- Avoid the use of DAKTARIN ® on large and particularly damaged surfaces;
- Use unique towels and linens for the patient;
- Contact your doctor immediately following signs and symptoms of hypersensitivity or sensitization.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
The lack of systemic absorption of the drug following its topical use allows DAKTARIN ® to be used, evidently under the strict supervision of its gynecologist, during pregnancy and in the subsequent breastfeeding period.
Interactions
No clinically relevant drug interactions are currently known.
Contraindications DAKTARIN ® Miconazole
DAKTARIN ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients.
Undesirable effects - Side effects
The adverse reactions currently documented following the use of DAKTARIN ® are generally local and transient.
Redness, burning irritation and only rarely hypersensitivity reactions are the side effects currently reported.
Note
DAKTARIN ® is a non-compulsory prescription drug and can therefore be sold freely
DAKTARIN ® is also available in vaginal ovules, creams and solutions for vaginal use useful in the treatment of gynecological infections supported by Candida.
