Onicomadesi - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

The ononic system, that is the loss of the nail, is the consequence of a prolonged interruption of the mitotic activity of the nail matrix. The lamina appears detached from the nail bed by a full-thickness groove; this separation begins at the base and progressively reaches the free edge of the nail, causing its detachment.

The ononicomadesi recognizes the same causes of Beau's lines, with the difference that, in this case, the intensity of the damage that has struck the nail is more serious. It can therefore be a consequence of traumas, infections, cold exposure and side effects of some drugs. Ononicomadesis can occur in cases of eczema, onychomycosis and Raynaud's syndrome.
