Anal Burning - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

Anal burning is an intermittent or continuous symptom, which can be caused by dermatological or proctological diseases. It can be found, in particular, in the case of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, perianal dermatitis, abscesses and anal and perianal fistulas. Anal burning can be the manifestation of sexually transmitted diseases, oxyuriasis, inflammatory bowel diseases and proctitis (inflammation of the rectal mucosa). Possible predisposing factors include constipation, anal incontinence, excessive sweating, antibiotic therapies and the use of topical irritants (eg soaps). Another fairly frequent cause of anal burning is poor hygiene or, on the contrary, excessive cleaning of the area.
