Preface

"In all civilizations since the beginning of medicine the treatment of diseases was entrusted, in addition to more or less improbable medicines, to the treatment of the body by means of mechanical action applied from the outside, sometimes associated with thermal interventions by applying compresses or substances hot or cold.It seems therefore that interventions of massages or anyway manual treatments on various parts of the body have been carried out since ancient times in all the ethnic groups and in all continents. It is therefore logical to be able to affirm that the manual skill of the massage has always constituted, in all peoples an irrepressible requirement of the human race: still today they have great popularity oriental massages, very distinct in each country of origin, China, Japan, Thailand etc. but also interventions with exquisitely western type massage techniques, especially Scandinavian and northern European: every intervention with this manual has, in its DNA, an aim to pursue: Relaxation or, improvement of blood circulation, lymphatic fluid, anti bedsore function and other more or less specialized applications. In the sports world, then, massage has always been one of the cornerstones of the athlete's preparation, to be practiced before and after training and competitions. It cannot therefore be denied that the massage has been entrusted with very important roles in order to make the best of the human body machine engaged in the most varied motor disciplines. Sport, in fact, could be defined as an excuse to verify, and measure how much the body machine can do in all the gestures in which it can express itself: the maximum in dexterity, speed, power, resistance and even ..... in the ability to achieve the maximum possible immobility! In shooting or archery, in fact, the absolute immobility of the body is the prerequisite for having a "shooting pitch" as efficient as possible, in order to hit the target. Well, in all sports massage is applied in order to improve human performance. Then there are those who, like Maurizio, especially in sports, wanted to go even deeper, taking into consideration the various elements, muscle, tendon, covering fabrics and so on. in order to free the boundaries between the various components so that each had the maximum freedom of movement, the least frictions and the dissolution of existing viscosities. In conclusion there is a great need for people, like Maurizio, who study with the greatest possible care, not only strengthening or relaxing, but how to put the various components in the best and most efficient work capacity. Although not particularly expressed, I believe that these "liberating" manual interventions can also positively influence the circulatory system, both on the large vessels and on the capillaries, helping them to perform their dual function of providing oxygen and removing waste products at their best . I repeat once again that, from the scientific point of view, it is difficult to "quantize" the positive effect of such an intervention, but it is comforted by a form of reasoning, which seems logical to us, which tells us: the effects, large or small as they are, they certainly go in the right direction. I therefore hope, with all my heart, the maximum success of this excellent publication ".
