DORICUM ® is indicated in the treatment of eye diseases such as conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis, sclerites etc and post-operative reactions.
Mechanism of action DORICUM ® Fluocinolone and Neomycin
DORICUM ® associates the therapeutic activity of two important active ingredients characterized by different biological properties, useful for the complete treatment of eye diseases.
More precisely, Neomycin is an antibiotic with broad-spectrum bacteriostatic activity performed through the inhibition of bacterial ribosomal subunit activity and therefore also of the related process of bacterial synthesis, while Fluocinolone is a steroid derived from hydrocortisone with an intense anti-inflammatory activity guaranteed by the ability to induce the expression of Lipocortin A, thereby inhibiting the advancement of molecular events useful for the synthesis of inflammatory mediators.
The aforementioned biological activities are also optimized by the good pharmacokinetic properties of the two active principles administered by eye drops, useful in significantly reducing any systemic absorption and therefore the relative potential side effects.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
HYPERSENSITIZATION FROM NEOMYCIN
J Med Case Rep. 2008 Feb 23; 2: 57. doi: 10.1186 / 1752-1947-2-57.
Case report that reports the appearance of a serious adverse reaction to Neomycin applied by eye drops after cataract surgery, emphasizing the importance of a careful pre-operative medical history.
ALOE AND NEOMYCIN IN ASSOCIATION
Acta Pol Pharm. 2003 Jan-Feb; 60 (1): 31-9.
Study that evaluates the effectiveness of the association between Neomycin and Aloe in eye drops dedicated to the treatment of eye diseases. This association could preserve the antibiotic activity of Neomycin while also guaranteeing an emollient and refreshing action.
NEOMYCIN IN COLLIRIUM IN POST-OPERATIVE PHASES
Eye (Lond). 1994; 8 (Pt 5): 550-4.
Study demonstrating the efficacy of the association between neomycin and corticosteroids such as betamethasone in the post-operative phases, useful in preventing potential post-operative complications including those evidently infectious.
Method of use and dosage
DORICUM ®
Eye drops of 0.5 g of Neomicin sulfate and 0.04 g of Fluocinolone acetonide.
The definition of the dosage and of the relative dosage scheme is the responsibility of the competent doctor taking into account the clinical conditions of the patient.
Generally we recommend instillation directly into the conjunctival sac of 1-2 drops of eye drops 2-4 times a day.
Warnings DORICUM ® Fluocinolone and Neomycin
The presence of corticosteroids in DORICUM ® further underlines the importance of avoiding prolonged therapeutic interventions, given the increased risk of developing local adverse reactions such as endocular hypertension, glaucoma or hypersensitivity reactions.
Maximum caution is recommended when using DORICUM ® in patients suffering from corneal ulcers, corneal and retinal pathologies.
In any case the use of DORICUM ® should always take place under the strict supervision of your doctor.
It is recommended to keep the medicine out of the reach of children.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Given the presence of a corticosteroid among the active ingredients of DORICUM ® it would be appropriate to generally extend the aforementioned contraindications to the use of the drug also to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding.
Interactions
It should be remembered that neomycin can cross react with other active ingredients such as gentamicin, streptomycin, paromomycin and kanamycin.
Contraindications DORICUM ® Fluocinolone and Neomycin
The use of DORICUM ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients and to patients suffering from viral, fungal or purulent infections of the eye.
Undesirable effects - Side effects
The use of DORICUM ® above all if prolonged for a long time could determine the appearance of local hypersensitivity manifestations, such as to require the suspension of the treatment.
Note
DORICUM ® is a prescription-only drug.
