Meatballs on the Pizza

Pizza with meatballs is a recipe that unifies two typical preparations of the Bel Paese although, paradoxically, it is not of Italian origin. In fact, by tradition, Neapolitan-style meatballs are part of a sauce to accompany pasta, not pizza.

The pizza with meatballs was probably invented in the USA, a place where its popularity is constantly growing. In America there is no pizzeria that does not offer it and some restaurants offer it as a real "house specialty".

There are many types of pizza with meatballs; besides the Italian one, you can find the "Tex Mex" ("chili con carne" model) and the "Greek-Style" (with sweet and sour lamb).

The meatballs used on the pizza can also be cut in half with the knife or broken and crumbled, to reduce its size.

Pizza balls can be prepared Neapolitan (fried) or "deep-dish style" (stewed).

Some pizzas with meatballs involve the incorporation of the meat into chunks directly into the pizza dough before cooking.
