Indications ANDRODERM ® - Testosterone

ANDRODERM ® is used as a hormone replacement therapy during pathologies such as cryptorchidism, bilateral torsion, orchitis, Klinefelter syndrome, chemotherapy and secondary hypogonadism.

Mechanism of action ANDRODERM ® - Testosterone

ANDRODERM ® is one of the first testosterone-free transdermal drugs released on the market.

The patch in fact allows to reproduce the normal cicardian rhythm of this hormone, clearly simplifying the method of administration, and ensuring a clear improvement of the symptomatology in a short time.

The most commonly reported symptoms of endogenous testosterone deficiency, such as fatigue, wasting, depression, reduced sexual libido and impotence, are immediately recovered once the therapy is undertaken and usually accompanied by important anabolic effects such as increased protein synthesis, increased bone mineralization and activation of hematopoiesis.

However, some of the metabolites of this hormone, especially when taken in excessive doses, could be responsible for important side effects such as the inhibition of the hypothalamic hypothalamus axis with reduced spermatogenesis.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. ANDROGENES / ESTROGENS ON THE BONE TURNOVER

Very complex work that demonstrates how both testosterone and estrogens can play a fundamental role in the correct control of bone turnover, effectively regulating osteodeposition and resorption processes through different molecular mechanisms.

2. NEW APPLICATIONS FOR ANDRODERM

Article that reviews the main fields of application of trans dermal testosterone. In addition to the classic indications, for which testosterone is commonly used, ANDRODERM seems to be effective also in the treatment of complications associated with thalassemia, HIV and other debilitating diseases.

3. THE USE OF ANDRODERM IN THE BETA TALASSEMIA

Beta thalassemia is often associated with a high prevalence of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism that affects many adolescents. The administration of Androdem has proved useful in rebalancing serum testosterone concentrations, promoting increased bone density and virilization.

Method of use and dosage

ANDRODERM ®

Testosterone 2.5 mg / 24h or 5mg / 24h transdermal patch:

the patch should be applied, on the intact skin of the back, abdomen, arm or thigh, in the evening around 10 pm and held for 24 hours in place to then be replaced.

In this way we should reproduce the physiological cicardian rhythm, characterized by low dosages increasing in the early morning hours.

The dosage and the period of administration should be defined by your doctor, after a careful evaluation of the patient's clinical picture and after defining the therapeutic goals.

Warnings ANDRODERM ® - Testosterone

Despite the transdermal application of testosterone, it significantly reduces the invasiveness of this therapy, the biological concepts and the related side effects of taking androgens remain unchanged.

Consequently, the doctor should subject the patient to a careful medical check-up before prescribing ANDRODERM ®, foreseeing the need for periodic monitoring checks in patients with

hypertension, epilepsy, cardiovascular, hepatic, renal and metabolic pathologies, for which the risk of developing serious side effects has definitely increased.

The use in prepubera age should instead take place with particular attention, given the possible deleterious effects on bone growth and on the too rapid development of the male genital organs.

It is useful to remember that the site of application of the patch must be intact, free of obvious injuries, and not subjected to particular pressure during the night or in the following 24 hours.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The ability of testosterone to easily cross the hematoplacental filter, returning to the fetal circulation, is responsible for the virilization of the fetus with important consequences also on its reproductive capacity.

In light of these works it is easy to understand the reason for the contraindication to the intake of male sex hormones during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding.

Interactions

The exogenous intake of testosterone could expose the patient to possible complications, following the interaction with other active ingredients such as:

  • Oral anticoagulants, whose association could determine an abnormal control of coagulation processes, therefore a greater risk of bleeding;
  • Oral hypoglycemic agents, whose interaction could increase the risk of hypoglycemia;
  • Cortisonics, responsible for edema and hypertension.

It is useful to remember that testosterone intake could offset some laboratory parameters indicative of thyroid, renal, adrenal and hepatic function.

Contraindications ANDRODERM ® - Testosterone

Testosterone intake is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of its excipients, breast cancer, estrogen-dependent neoplasms, cancer and prostatic hypertrophy, history of hepatocarcinoma, hypercalcaemia, nephrotic syndrome, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The patch should not be applied to non-intact skin or to skin areas under high pressure.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The transdermal application of testosterone does not spare the patient from the side effects described by the scientific literature for oral or parenteral intake of this hormone.

In fact the intake of androgens at high doses or outside of medical indications is frequently associated with the increased incidence of prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer, weight gain and water retention, hypertension and cardiovascular complications, hypercholesterolemia, acne, hirsutism, alterations of hepatic function, oligozoospermia and non-specific myalgia.

In addition, the skin site on which the patch is applied may be subject to itching, blisters, contact dermatitis, ulcers and lesions similar to those observed in the event of burns.

Note

ANDRODERM ® is salable only under medical prescription.

ANDRODERM ® is an anabolic agent, therefore its use, outside of medical prescriptions on pathological bases, is prohibited in the race and out of the race
