What is Teina

Generally, the term teina is used as a synonym for caffeine, with particular reference to that contained in tea leaves ( Camellia sinensis ). Although it would seem untrustworthy, we could therefore say that coffee is rich in theine and caffeine tea, without making any mistakes.

Caffeine was first isolated in 1819 by the German chemist Friedrich Ferdinand Runge. A few years later, in 1826, Martius isolated guaranina from guarana, while in the following year (1827) Oudry discovered tea in tea. At the end of the 19th century, thanks to the works of Ludwig Medicus and Hermann Emil Fischer, it was finally realized that caffeine, theine and guaranine actually represented the same substance. Also mateina, from the name of the infusion - yerba mate - from which it is extracted, is a simple synonym of caffeine.

Teina in Tea

Although the tea leaves contain - at equal weight - greater amounts of theine, the concentrations in the infusion are normally lower than those of a cup of coffee. However, much depends on the extraction techniques (more or less long duration of the infusion) and preparations (in general, black tea contains more caffeine than oolong, which in turn contains more caffeine than green tea).
