What is computer vision syndrome?

Eye fatigue is one of the most frequent problems encountered among those who spend many hours in front of the personal computer screen. In addition to feeling tired, prolonged use of the monitor can lead to the appearance of burning, redness, tearing or dry eyes, photophobia, transient visual cloudiness, headache, neck and back pain. This series of disorders, related to the use of a video terminal, define the computer vision syndrome (from Computer Vision Syndrome or CVS).

CVS is caused by the combination of various factors, such as the position of the device, distance from the screen, pre-existing sight problems and room lighting. The manifestations associated with computer vision syndrome can be controlled by reducing the time spent in front of the PC. If the problems persist, however, it is always advisable to undergo an eye examination.
