Definition
Swollen and swollen lymph nodes are often the result of a massive attack by pathogenic microorganisms, such as viruses, parasites and bacteria; more rarely they are caused by neoplasms.
Lymph nodes are small cellular clusters, similar to beans, covered by a capsule of connective tissue; within them, lymphocytes and macrophages abound, immune cells assigned to the recognition and destruction of pathogens. Along the lymphatic circulation, the lymph nodes concentrate in groups, located in certain areas of the body, such as the neck, throat, axillary region and groin. In general, the swelling of the lymph nodes, expression of an increased activity of the same with leukocyte proliferation, is localized in specific body regions.
