Definition

The varicose veins are permanent dilations of the veins, which appear dilated, elongated and meandering. Any vein can become varicose, but the most commonly affected belong to the superficial leg cycle. For many people varices are just an aesthetic problem, but we must not forget that complications can also arise, such as phlebitis, infections, ulcerations and hemorrhages.

Further indications

Usually the varicose veins do not cause any pain, but they become well evident for the bluish or violet color, and the appearance similar to the soft, intertwined and tortuous cords. In the most serious cases the patient complains of painful symptoms, muscle cramps, local ease with hematomas, swelling and tingling (paresthesia) at the extremities, itching and dryness in the affected areas. These symptoms are aggravated by standing, heat, overweight and overwork.
