ULIS ® - Cimetidine

ULIS ® is a Cimetidine based drug

THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Antacids, antiemetics and peptic antiulcer - H2 antagonist

IndicationsAction mechanismStudies and clinical effectiveness Usage and dosage instructionsWarnings Pregnancy and lactationInteractionsContraindicationsUndesirable effects

Indications ULIS ® - Cimetidine

ULIS ® is indicated in the treatment of all those pathological conditions whose pathogenesis is related to acid hypersecretion of the stomach.

Duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, recurrent ulcer, reflux esophagitis, gastritis and duodenitis represent some of the pathologies for which the use of Cimetidine would be indicated.

Mechanism of action ULIS ® - Cimetidine

ULIS ® is a drug based on Cimetidine, an active ingredient belonging to the H2 receptor antagonist category, used to effectively control chloride-peptic secretion.

More precisely, this active ingredient taken orally is rapidly absorbed by the enteric mucosa, reaching maximum plasma concentrations in about 60 minutes and prolonging its therapeutic activity for about 2 hours, after which, following a hepatic metabolism, it is eliminated mainly via the kidney.

Interacting with histamine H2 receptors, Cimetidine inhibits its activity, thus preventing gastric acid secretion both in basal conditions and following vagal stimulation, gastrin stimulation or food intake.

Studies show that Cimetidine can also reduce the release of Pepsin, hence the total secretory volume, thus controlling the phlogistic insult against the gastro-duodenal mucosa.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

ANTITUMOR POTENTIAL OF CIMETIDINE

Oncol Rep. 2010 Mar; 23 (3): 693-700.

Experimental study that tests new properties of cimetidine and in particular its potential antitumor role, highlighting the ability to inhibit the proliferation of stomach cancer cells in vitro, facilitating apoptosis.

GASTROPROTECTOR EFFECT OF CIMETHYDINE TOWARDS ACETYLSALICYL ACID

J Coll Physicians Surg Pak. 2011 Mar; 21 (3): 151-6. doi: 03.2011 / JCPSP.151156.

An interesting study carried out on small laboratory animals that demonstrates the efficacy of Cimetidine and other natural gastroprotectors, in protecting the gastric mucosa from phlogistic insults caused by certain drugs such as acetylsalicylic acid.

IPERSENSIBILITY FROM CIMETIDINE

J Investig Allergol Clin Immunol. 2012; 22 (3): 216-8.

Case report that reports the appearance of immediate hypersensitivity to Cimetidine, thus highlighting a series of potential adverse reactions to be taken into account during ULIS ® therapy

Method of use and dosage

ULIS ®

Cimetidine 800 mg oral tablets;

Granulated for 800 mg oral solution of Cimetidine.

The doses and the relative timing of the assumption must be defined by the physician based on the physiopathological characteristics of the patient and the gravity of his / her clinical picture.

Generally taking a tablet or a sachet a day, before going to bed, is able to control gastric hypersecretion and guarantee a remission of symptoms.

Warnings ULIS ® - Cimetidine

The use of ULIS ® must necessarily be preceded by a careful medical examination in order to assess the patient's clinical conditions, the prescriptive appropriateness and the possible presence of conditions incompatible with the therapy based on Cimetidine or contextual pathologies that could be masked by taking the drug.

Particular caution in the administration of ULIS ® should also be considered for patients suffering from severe and medium renal and hepatic diseases, in which the pharmacokinetic variations could significantly increase the risk of adverse reactions.

The entire therapeutic procedure should be supervised by your doctor.

It is recommended to keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The experimental evidences that describe the ability of Cimetidine to cross both the placental barrier and the mammary filter, broadly extend the aforementioned contraindications to the use of ULIS ® also to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding.

If the use of this drug is strictly necessary, the whole therapy should be supervised by your doctor.

Interactions

The hepatic metabolism of Cimetidine could induce changes in the pharmacokinetic properties of active ingredients such as warfarin, theophylline, phenytoin, beta blockers and diazepam, exposing the patient to serious side effects.

Contraindications ULIS ® - Cimetidine

The use of ULIS ® is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients or to other structurally related molecules.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of ULIS ® could cause side effects such as diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, headache, alterations in the cognitive state, myalgia, arthralgia, and rarely liver and neurological damage and alterations of the sexual sphere due to the ability to inhibit the androgen receptor activity.

Note

ULIS ® is a prescription-only drug.
