Indications CLEVER ® - Ebastina

CLEVER ® is used in the symptomatic treatment of IgE-mediated diseases such as allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis.

Action mechanism CLEVER ® - Ebastina

CLEVER ® is an antihistamine widely used in a clinical setting based on Ebastine, an active ingredient belonging to the category of second generation H1 receptor antagonists, and therefore characterized by advantageous pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties.

Taken orally, in fact, Ebastine is rapidly absorbed at the gastro-enteric level, undergoing an intense first-pass metabolism that transforms it into an active metabolite known as Carebastina, which reaches histamine receptors, persisting with its therapeutic effect for about 3-4 hours, after which it is eliminated via the kidney.

Failure to cross the blood-brain barrier significantly limits all the potential side effects of Ebastine at the level of the Central Nervous System and in particular the sedating action which still represents one of the main side effects of antihistamine therapy.

The anti-edema and anti-bronchospasmic action complete the therapeutic action of Ebastine, thus adequately controlling the symptomatology in course of allergic rhinitis, with antihistamine effects that persist even several days after treatment suspension.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

THE EBASTINE INCREASES THE SECRETION OF IFN GAMMA

J Biol Regul Homeost Agents. 2009 Jan-Mar; 23 (1): 31-6.

Work that seeks to clarify the molecular mechanisms underlying the efficacy of action of Ebastine, highlighting the immunostimulatory action of the same, strengthening the expression of gamma IFN, generally lacking in allergic patients.

THE EBASTINE IN THE ALLERGIC RHINE AND IN THE CHRONIC IDIOPATHICALLY

Allergy. 2008 Dec; 63 Suppl 89: 1-20.

Clinical study that concludes that Ebastine is generally well tolerated and effective in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria, guaranteeing prompt remission of symptoms in the face of great safety of use at the cognitive, psychomotor and cardiovascular level.

THE EBASTINE IN THE TREATMENT OF ALLERGIC RHINITIS

Clin.Drug Investig. 1998; 16 (6): 413-20.

Study conducted on 317 patients suffering from allergic rhinitis which shows how treatment with 10 or 20 mg of Ebastine daily can guarantee a rapid remission of symptoms, definitely more important than that induced by other antihistamines, with controlled side effects.

Method of use and dosage

CLEVER ®

Ebastine 10 - 20 mg coated tablets.

Therapy with CLEVER ® should be defined in dosages and in the timing of intake by your doctor based on the physiopathological characteristics and the severity of the present clinical picture.

Generally daily doses of 10-20 mg of Ebastine a day are sufficient to guarantee an appropriate remission of the symptomatology in progress.

A dosage adjustment would instead be required in patients with severe liver and kidney disease.

Warnings CLEVER ® - Ebastina

The use of CLEVER ® should be preceded by a careful medical examination in order to assess the prescriptive appropriateness and the possible presence of contraindications to the use of the drug.

More precisely, great caution should be reserved for patients suffering from liver and kidney diseases in which the metabolic capacities of Ebastine, with a potential increase in side effects, would be seriously compromised.

The same caution should be reserved for patients with impaired cardiac function, note the cardiac effects of long-term antihistamines.

CLEVER ® contains lactose, therefore its use would be poorly indicated in patients with lactase enzyme deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome and rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance.

In order to obtain adequate results, it is recommended to stop taking antihistamines at least 48 hours before allergy tests.

Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The absence of studies able to verify the safety profile of Ebastine for fetal health, and the ability of the same to cross the mammary filter and probably also the placental barrier, extend the aforementioned contraindications to the use of CLEVER ® also to the pregnancy and subsequent breastfeeding period.

Interactions

The hepatic metabolism to which Ebastine meets and the potential side effects linked to the lengthening of the QT interval impose on the patient the maximum caution in the simultaneous administration of more drugs and in particular those active on hepatic metabolism and on the cardiac function.

For this reason it would be advisable to consult your doctor before undertaking the simultaneous intake of other drugs.

Contraindications CLEVER ® - Ebastina

The use of CLEVER ® is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients or to other structurally related molecules, in patients suffering from severe liver disease and in children under the age of 12 years.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of Ebastine, especially when prolonged over time, could lead to the appearance of dyspepsia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, asthenia, edema, abnormal liver function, insomnia, nervousness, mental disorders, tachycardia and only rarely hypersensitivity dermatological reactions to the active ingredient.

Note

CLEVER ® is a drug subject to mandatory medical prescription.
